My heart has been heavy these last few days after the recent events in Newtown, Conn. During the service this past Sunday where I was ministering, one of the deacons was praying for the families, teachers, victims and first responders and his cry was that God would speak to us in the midst of this tragedy. Suddenly a word fell into my heart and I did away with my prepared message and preached from what had been placed upon my heart as a response to that prayer.

The main Scripture I used was this:

Hebrews 12:25-27 See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven. And his voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

What I sensed in my heart is this. This event did not happen because of the lack of: gun control, school intervention, or anything else that man could do to avert such a tragedy as this. We, THE CHURCH, have dropped the ball in that we have allowed God to be ushered out of our government, our courts, our schools…. We have told Him in effect that “we don’t need you, God”…we can do it ourselves. We have created this Nation and we can control it with more laws and regulations. If we erase You out of everything, then we won’t offend those who believe differently, after all they have just as much a right to their beliefs as we do to ours. Right???”

Bottom line….THE CHURCH NEEDS REVIVAL!! As Christ followers, we need to allow God to INHABIT our lives, our homes, our churches. We have too often settled for mere “visits” from Him….allowing Him enough access only when we’ve needed something from Him so that we can quickly return to our normal important schedules.

I don’t know about you but my heart is crying “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”….how many more lives will be lost because evil is allowed to run rampant in our streets, our schools and our homes. It is TIME for the CHURCH cry out…first of all to GOD whom we have offended. We must beseech Him to turn His face toward us and hear from heaven. That is only done when we come to the end of ourselves and realize that we can do NOTHING to combat the evil that runs about like a roaring lion, seeking whom He may devour. We need a power that only comes from the throne room of heaven born on the wings of the Holy Spirit as in the days of Acts. We need to tarry until He comes and empowers us and opens the doors for us to show His love and compassion and that He is working through His church today to heal, restore, reconcile and deliver. We need His power today more than ever.

My heart is broken, and there is an anger rising up within to look at myself and ask, “Am I truly willing to pay the price of what it will take to see REVIVAL come to my home, our church, our community, schools, state, Nation??”

My answer is a resounding, “YES”!  My heart cries for the Church to reach past the walls that separate us and come together to seek His face in this hour. What could He do through us if we were to do this in earnest??
